RTI: MLA offers to tell all

RTI: MLA offers to tell all
As Reported by Mazhar Ali in TNN, 4 May 2008,

CHANDRAPUR: Although one can seek information from state and central
government offices under Right to Information (RTI), seeking
information on elected representatives is excluded from the Act. But
this is MLA has decided to go 'transparent'.

Chandrapur MLA Sudhir Mungantiwar has invited citizens from his
constituency to 'feel free' to come to his office and seek information
about him, his funds and his activities. His party workers assist
citizens who come with queries and they are provided with the
information and documents they need. Sources say that this could be an
'election gimmick' prior to the state assembly polls. However, the
locals are excited about posing queries to their MLA.

Mungantiwar said he had decided to "bring himself under RTI purview"
so that citizens know the kind of people-related development he did
during his tenure and how much funds he spent for every project.
"They can also ask me about any promises made by me in the past and if
I have fulfilled them," he said adding that the system would help him
    get feedback from the voters.

The MLA said he was willing to share any information during his past
15 years as an elected representative. All the queries will be
collected at my office and I will give the replies/documents on
    Mondays, he stated.

He has deployed an-eight-member staff at his office to undertake the
job of dispensing information. He has also organised every document
pertaining to projects undertaken by him subject wise, date wise,
etc. "It helps him provide information within minutes," said a party

What's more, even journalists can seek information from his office
whenever they require, a person from his office stated.

Irrespective of his politicos status, this move is really Tiger move on part of Shri Sudhir from Chandrapur, Vidharbha, Maharashtra.

Sudhir was always useful for common man and with his this innovation, it will give dimension to RTI act 2005 in Vidarbha & Nagpur region where historically Governments funds reached to wrong hands and corruption is rampant even at Gram Panchayat Level.

If someone is having email of Sudhir, please share the same or offer my congratulations to him on this Tiger Move.

Irrespective of his motives ,this MLA has shown tremendous moral courage and deserves appreciation .And if he does provide information honestly as per RTI applications,I think it will set precedent for some others to follow to start with. And this will boost RTI movement in a very big way.

A great initiative by MLA Shri Sudhir Mungantiwar.

It is very easy to accuse and attach motives of politics. But the fact remains that those who are accusing Shri Mungantiwar have not come forward and offered to be transparent (may be with political motive).

    Hearty congratulations Sudhir Mungantiwar!

    Hope other representatives emulate you.
