CIC struggles to clear huge backlog of cases

CIC struggles to clear huge backlog of cases
AS reported in the Hindu on May 18, 2008

It is supposed to ensure that people get information under the RTI, but
the Central Information Commission (CIC) is itself suffering from a
huge pendency of cases and over 6,000 appeals filed with it are still
    pending.

In all, 6,364 cases were pending with the CIC till the end of March,
2008, as per a reply to an RTI application.
According to RTI experts, it would take an year or more for a new case
to come up for hearing before the CIC, and by then the information one
    has sought could become irrelevant.

Is anyone aware what the pendency is like at the CIC end December 2008 ? I have a feeling that it might be nearing 10,000 ! Not only the information sought could become irrerelevant, but the prayer and the grounds, and therefore, the purpose of the Appeal itself would .

I had filed a complaint to CIC in 2007 the matter is yet to be brought before the CIC with regard to certain loan availed by my late mother . apparently the Bank had failed to furnish full details of the borrowed amount when i had filed an application under RTI , the loan amount is still due since 2006 the interest for the borrowing is mounting and i am still waiting the decision of CIC . last week when i called up Sri Satyanand Mishra office i got a reply that it might still take another nine months until the case is heard !!!

    It is available here:

    https://www.cic.gov.in/Reports/MPR-Dec08.htm

Cummulative pendancy till end December 2008: 9593

But please take those figures with a pinch of salt !

Thanks to Mr Karira . So I was not wide off the mark when I mentioned the figure of 10,000 . As for Snehal Rai from Bangalore, I am a bit surprised . There is a baklong , no doubt, but IT CANNOT TAKE 9 MONTHS MORE .

Please tell me the precise date of filing the 2nd appeal with CIC references and if you received an interim response. Moreover, you are in Karnataka, so you have to go to the SIC, what made you go to CIC in appeal ? But if the matter is indeed with CIC, I will speak with IC(SM) .

Snehal's second appeal must be against a Public Sector Bank and has to be filed with CIC in New Delhi, since it is a Central PA.

It is the Registrar not the Information Commissioners who are supposed to respond to such kind of queries . If Snehal Rai would provide full details I will take it up with the PSB as well as CIC .

This means that if you need information urgently say in 6 months, then U have to adopt pre-RTI procedure [sam dam dand bhed].
It takes each of us to make difference for all of us.
