    Right to information service centres

CHENNAI: `5th Pillar', an organisation that aims at mobilising volunteers to fight corruption, will launch Right to information (RTI) Service Centres on Sunday(18.03.2007) at a function to be held at Kamaraj memorial hall in Teynampet.

Vijay Anand, president of Washington Tamil Sangam, who is currently in the city, will head 5th Pillar Right to Information Act Service Centres in India.

M.B. Nirmal, Founder of 5th Pillar International, explained how individual citizens have been using the RTI Act effectively to increase public accountability of government organisations. He told reporters on Tuesday that people could send their request to the RTI Service Centre for further processing.

Volunteers would reply to their queries, draft a petition and return it to them.

The petitioner would have to affix a Rs.10 court fee stamp and take it to the relevant department.
    The organisation's website is: www.5thpillar.org.
