The 30 days time limit is reasonable. The power to extend this time limit should not be given to the AA. If at all it is given, it must be given to the information seeker. That is, if the info seeker agrees, the PIO may take some more time. The Act has thoughtfully provided that no reasons need be asked for from the info seeker. Otherwise the PIO will go on questioning the reason and concluding that there is no public interest. Public info should be available to the public. This itself is a valid public interest. No more explanation is required to prove public interest. Cost of postage has to be borne by the Govt. because, as pointed out it is only public money and under Sec 4 as much info is supposed to be made available suo moto, leaving little room for personal queries.
