Thread: Is there PIO in Courts? Can we ask information under RTI from Court?


  1. I also wish to know about RTI IN COURTS iF THERE IS A PIO FOR JUDICIAL/LEGAL SERVICES, CAN WE ASK INFORMATION FROM HIM REGARDING COURT CASES




  2. Yes, every court need to setup the PIO and access to information. However some of the courts have not yet implemented this.

    This is good development in country as judiciary is under RTI and we may make accountable to judiciary.

    Yes, its true, but certain courts by framing their own RTI rules have diluted certain portion of the act, by commanding high application fees etc. Further if the information can be availed through their regular (non-rti) rules then the same cannot be asked for under the RTI.

    On the bright side, most HC judges sometimes ask the petitioners to obtain documents from their respondents through RTI Act. In some cases, even the HC Judges themself apply for certain documents from PA to help them take decision in their own cases. They use this approach, when they feel the PA is lying.
